Background

When constructing a state of the art learning facility for students interested in engineering, BAM Construction approached Titan Door Systems to provide and install the internal and external doorsets for the building. Having worked with us before, they knew our track record of successful and timely completion of other projects, and knew that we could handle some of their more unusual requirements.

We worked closely with BAM Construction and their in-house design team to ensure that our part of the project would not only meet the structural and safety requirements of the building, but would also compliment the building's industrial design.

Components

  • 143 doorsets including;
  • S-XR External Doorsets (CE marked under BS EN 14351-1)
  • S-XR External Louvered Doorsets
  • S-IR Internal Fire Rated Doorsets (certified under Certifire accreditation scheme)
  • Configurations: Single and double leaf personnel doorsets

Bespoke Elements

As part of the design, we were asked to produce a "serving hatch", from which components could be issued to students for engineering projects. We created a secure hatch, incorporating a shelf.

Prior to this project, we had not previously worked with balustrading, however when approached to incorporate the Engineering Workshop balustrading into our package, we developed the necessary technical understanding to include this aspect of the project.

The "industrial look" of the Key-Klamp system suited the engineering application perfectly, and BAM’s design team asked us to explore the possibilities for the containment of the necessary services adjacent to the Key-Klamp system. Our design team devised a bespoke (hardwearing) galvanized metal containment system with integral access panels, into which the power, I.T. and cooling requirements for the workshop machinery was incorporated.

Getting everything right

We provided a range of different products to meet the needs of various different areas of the new building - from flush metal doors to balustrading.

The client was keen for the external doors to match existing cladding, so we created perforated doors to fit seamlessly into the design. We were also able to supply “chequer plate” finishing

It was clear to us from an early stage of the project that all of our product choices and configurations would have to stand up to a high-traffic environment, and

  • External CE marked doorsets under BS EN 14351-1
  • Secured by Design rated external doorsets under the STS BR2 security classification
  • Fire rated doorsets (under the Certifire 3rd party accreditation scheme)

Project success

BAM Construction were rightly lauded for their ability to deliver this £10 million, 4,500sqm building within a calendar year, after managing to shave 6 weeks off the timescales for the project. Titan was proud to be a part of the success - all subcontractors finished earlier than expected, and teamwork meant that many were also able to overlap. We always appreciate working with other contractors and subcontractors, especially when we’re able to contribute to this sort of efficiency.
